Here are Rep. Herrera’s reflections on her trip down the Chama River in July.

Chama River July 2020, Representative Susan Herrera

“When I first became a legislator representing District 41, I thought my service would be about Education and Early Childhood. What I have learned in my first tenure is that I spend 40% of my time on water, working with mutual domestic water systems, acequias, the Rio Grande and Chama rivers, and our watersheds. So I ventured with a group of hydrologists down the Chama River to learn more about the watersheds and stream access in the North. Thank you to the non

profit Rio Grande Restoration for its great work and for their oversight of our local rivers.

The three-day guided trip was one of the most beautiful and amazing experiences. The river rafters are going strong in the North, and I would recommend that everyone take a vacation in New Mexico to explore and experience one of New Mexico’s most beautiful waterways, the Chama River. The fishing is excellent too.”
